A series of a single shot – of Jordan, filmed by the incredible Ronin – with a variety of visual effects applied to them. The effects are generated via code – that use the following techniques: time displacement, absolute difference & in the last two clips, dynamically generated brush strokes with an omnidirectional displacement map applied. A custom AIR app is used to generate the code and drive Photoshop CS3 Extended.
My first objective was to continue exploring the Time Displacement and Absolute Difference algorithms I worked on a while back in MATLAB, but port them into my AIR app while at the same time taking advantage of the tools available to us via Photoshop. For a very long time, I have also dreamed about isolating only the moving pixels from one frame to the next, vectorizing them and then applying brush strokes to that area – in effect, only painting where there’s movement. The last two shots in this series highlight the dynamically generated brush strokes.
